Donald Trump’s campaign touted a message of transformation, asserting he was a “changed man.” However, Monday’s update on Truth Social quickly dispelled any notions of newfound unity.

According to a report by Raw Story on Monday, July 15, 2024, during his latest address, Trump launched into an impassioned tirade, dismissing his ongoing legal battles as a “witch hunt” in Florida, labeling the Jan. 6 Capitol attack a “hoax,” and denouncing the New York fraud case as a “scam.”

This outburst starkly contrasted with claims of personal evolution put forth by his campaign. Critics swiftly took to social media to debunk the narrative of Trump’s supposed transformation. “So much for unity… calling J6 a hoax,” lamented Fank Marin on X, reflecting the widespread sentiment that Trump’s rhetoric remains unchanged.

“Pretending he is not bad will not make him good,” remarked lawyer George Conway, underscoring the enduring concerns over Trump’s character and behavior. National security expert Marcy Wheeler went further, deriding claims of a transformative experience, dismissing them as naive. She referenced an Axios report quoting Tucker Carlson, who suggested the assassination attempt would change Trump, labeling those who believed it as “rubes.”

Legal analyst Luppe B. Luppen echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Trump’s consistent behavior and its impact on his supporters. “An utterly unchanged Trump embarrasses his perpetually hapless boosters,” Luppen remarked, pointing out the continuity in Trump’s divisive rhetoric. Former Republican Party chairman Michael Steele expressed disappointment, noting Trump’s focus on self-promotion rather than national unity.

“For Trump, ‘unifying America’ is about him, not the US! Nothing has changed,” Steele criticized, emphasizing the persistent self-centeredness in Trump’s messaging. The hacker group Anonymous raised poignant questions about Trump’s purported transformation, listing a litany of controversies from his past that remain unresolved. “What really has changed??” they queried, highlighting Trump’s past associations and legal troubles.

Danielle Campoamor, a prominent writer, scoffed at the notion of Trump’s evolution, pointing out his contradictory actions. “Trump ‘calls for unity’ by once again attacking Democrats,” Campoamor remarked, referencing Trump’s recent remarks on a woman he was found liable for assaulting. While some reports suggested Trump was undergoing a spiritual awakening post-assassination attempt, critics like Tara Deenihan criticized the media for perpetuating a false narrative.

“He f–king went golfing yesterday,” Deenihan lamented, highlighting what she viewed as the media’s role in perpetuating a misleading portrayal of Trump. Political cartoonist Steve Stegelin illustrated Trump’s renewed political campaign as starting off on a contentious note, underscoring the challenges ahead for his candidacy.

In response to Trump’s renewed aggressiveness, calls intensified for a robust opposition campaign. “Biden campaign, time to put the ads back on and take off the gloves,” urged Kurt Elftmann, advocating for a strong response to Trump’s divisive rhetoric. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden temporarily suspended his campaign ads in solidarity following the assassination attempt.

Both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris canceled scheduled events for Monday, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Amidst these developments, international relations professor Nicholas Grossman criticized the media’s relationship with Trump, likening it to an abusive dynamic. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Trump’s latest outburst has reignited debates over his suitability for public office, overshadowing initial claims of a changed persona following the recent tragic events.
