Prince Harry ‘spreads wings’ to shrug away ‘dominating’ Meghan?
Meghan Markle has reportedly been left to attend events alone as Prince Harry pursues his own projects, a situation that royal experts suggest is reflective of growing independence within their marriage. The Duchess of Sussex made a solo appearance at the LA Children’s Hospital gala this week while Harry traveled to Lesotho for charity work, raising questions about the couple’s dynamic.
Royal expert Phil Dampier offered insight into the situation, saying, “In the last couple of weeks we’ve got used to seeing Harry flying solo, so to speak.” He pointed out that Harry has been making appearances on his own in New York, Africa, and even back in London, signaling a shift in their public and professional partnership.
“He’s been in New York. He’s been in Africa. He’s been over here in London, and it’s fairly obvious that he’s decided to spread his wings and branch out and do things on his own,” Dampier explained. This growing independence may be rooted in Harry’s feelings about his role during their joint trips, particularly during recent visits to Colombia and Nigeria.
Dampier suggested that Harry may have felt overshadowed by Meghan during some of these outings. “I think he felt that he was becoming a bit of a spare part with Meghan on some of the trips that he went with her to, certainly to Colombia and Nigeria,” he said.
The expert added, “I think she came across as the dominant partner, and perhaps he felt a little bit like a sort of spare part, or sort of bolt-on accessory, if you like, and I think that’s probably rankled with him a little bit.”
Harry’s recent solo ventures may be a response to these feelings, with Dampier noting that the Duke of Sussex is making deliberate efforts to carve out his own path. “So he’s obviously decided to do things differently,” the expert concluded.
As Harry continues to engage in his own charitable work, including his recent trip to Africa to support his Sentebale charity, Meghan remains active on her own front, attending high-profile events like the Children’s Hospital gala. While the couple remains committed to their individual causes, Dampier’s comments hint at a possible shift in their public relationship as both royals seek to assert their independence.
