Ripping Away Medicaid Will “Get People Killed” Especially In Red States. Happy Now, MAGA?

This is ill advised at best and downright stupid at worst. El Presidente might have been acting in accord with Project 2025 mandate, but the problem there is that Project 2025 didn’t take obvious risk factors into account.

About 80 million people are being directly affected by the funding freeze that Trump implemented last night and if you’re a Medicaid recipient (or involved with Head Start) game over pal. Try to get some health care.

As Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) wrote on the social platform X, “My staff has confirmed reports that Medicaid portals are down in all 50 states following last night’s federal funding freeze. This is a blatant attempt to rip away health insurance from millions of Americans overnight and will get people killed.” Other than that, everything’s fine. The Hill:

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) and Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) similarly shared claims of states losing access, and multiple states confirmed outages to The Hill.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote on X on Tuesday afternoon that the White House was “aware of the Medicaid website portal outage” but had “confirmed no payments have been affected — they are still being processed and sent.”

An OMB memo issued Tuesday stated, “Any program that provides direct benefits to Americans is explicitly excluded from the pause and exempted from this review process. In addition to Social Security and Medicare, already explicitly excluded in the guidance, mandatory programs like Medicaid and SNAP will continue without pause.”

We shall see. Either this was a screw up or it was a test for something bigger. I’m going to present you with an admittedly depressing dystopian scenario. This is my imagination running wild, but based on what we know about Trump and what we’ve seen so far, I sincerely don’t know that what I’m about to say is out of the question. What if Trump just pulls the plug on all the payments, Social Security, Medicare, you name it and we’re all left high and dry?

And then, being left high and dry, we take to the streets. And you know that would happen. And then while we’re in the streets, what if the fascist lunatic in the White House decides to call out the National Guard? Or any branch of the military. You know Pete Hegseth is where he is because he will obey an order to open fire on civilians that Mark Esper would not.
