Trump’s “Game Changer” American University Will Rise From Dead DOE

This brainstorm of Trump’s got going in the awful days right after the November 5 election when so many of us were wandering around in a state of shellshock, calling our therapists and getting psych meds prescribed.

Not good times. In any event, this is something I did not catch at the time and it’s another one of those situations where you go and fact check it because you don’t know whether it’s parody or not. That is the world we live in, where what used to be farce is now the normal bill of fare and nothing is too crazy to be real. Here is Trump’s newest version of Trump University, from what I can tell.

Trump plans to fire the “radical left accreditors,” naturally, and purge the “Marxist maniacs and lunatics.” Such a man of letters, Donald is. Such profundity and eloquence in every utterance. Think of it now, when you come out of American Academy, you’ll sound like this too. (Now put those razor blades away.)

What is ‘American Academy’?

One video in Trump’s platform, dubbed Agenda47, focuses on the American Academy, which is designed to work against higher ed institutions that are “turning our students into communists and terrorists and sympathizers of many, many different dimensions”.

He says he would tax, fine and sue private university endowments, which fund those universities, and use the money to create this academy. It would offer a “free world-class education” without adding to the federal debt, he claims, by offering online courses that then give credentials that the federal government and contractors would be required to recognize, and grant people the “equivalent” of a bachelor’s degree.

erica First Policy Institute advocates for similar, saying there should be “enhanced scrutiny” of students coming from “countries with adversarial governments”, though they have not specified which countries that includes.

There is only one good aspect to this: Trump is so busy tripping over his own shoelaces as the judiciary fights him, as Elon’s cars are torched (simultaneous with Tesla stock plummeting) as he sheepishly admits he has no ability to stop the Ukraine war, and so many more things, that American Academy is way on the back burner. In fact, it’s so far on the back burner that it’s out in the garage somewhere. We have to take the small wins wherever we find them.
