GOP Sen Who Predicted MAGA Defeat Emerges With Different Narrative Days After Fiery Trump Response
Senator Lindsey Graham strongly criticized Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday, August 27, for her recent support of a southern border wall, accusing her of inconsistency on immigration policy.
Republicans continue to claim that Harris is shifting her stance to gain bipartisan support for a deal that would allocate funding for the wall.
Earlier this year, the agreement fell apart due to pressure from former President Donald Trump.
The legislation proposed dedicating $650 million for the wall, a figure much lower than the $18 billion originally requested by Trump but still a significant amount.
Harris’s current position is a marked change from her previous opposition.
As a senator from California, she once described the wall as a “wasteful” expenditure and promised to block its funding.
During her 2020 run for the presidency, she argued that a border wall would not enhance national security.
Now, shifting toward a more centrist political position, recent ads for Harris’s campaign portray her as a firm leader on immigration, featuring images of the border wall and promoting her experience as a “border-state prosecutor.”
The Trump campaign has been quick to criticize Harris’s apparent shift, accusing her of failing in her role as the administration’s “border czar” and blaming her for the increase in illegal crossings.
Graham appeared on Fox News’s Hannity show on Tuesday night and bashed Harris’ immigration record, telling Sean Hannity that he would support funding the wall if Harris presented a “genuine proposal.”
He found it surprising that Harris never did the job over the years and suddenly wants to do it 70 days before an election.
“If Kamala Harris truly wants to build a wall, she’s had years to do it – but now, just 70 days before the election, she suddenly wants a wall. I’ll make an offer to the vice president: send me your wall proposal, and I’ll ensure you get all the necessary funding if it’s a serious plan,” Graham stated.
As the show concluded, Graham reiterated his disbelief, saying, “Do you really think she’s going to build a wall? That’s just nonsense. She’s had four years to act and has done nothing.”
“Over the last four years, they’ve reversed every Trump policy that curbed illegal immigration, and now we’re dealing with an influx of 10 million people.”
“They aren’t going to solve America’s problems. If you expect her to steer this nation back on course, you’re looking in the wrong direction. The facts are in their track record.”
He further criticized the administration’s track record, claiming it was disastrous.
“Under Trump, America was safe and prosperous. Under Harris and Biden, the world is in chaos, inflation is soaring, the border is in crisis, and we’re risking another 9/11.”
But his praise for Trump came just days after their clash, which saw Trump bash him after he dismissed the former President as a “provocateur” who might lose in November unless he changes.
“I like Lindsey, and I don’t care what he says. Lindsey wouldn’t have been elected without my endorsement. In South Carolina, he wouldn’t have had a chance without me,” Trump responded.
