Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has responded to Donald Trump’s second assassination attempt today at a golf course in Florida.

Trump’s opponent responded quickly after news broke that he had emerged from the incident unharmed. In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Harris condemned the incident stating, “violence has no place in America.”

“I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America,” she wrote.

The Republican candidate was taking a day off from the presidential campaign after facing off with Harris at the first debate last Tuesday. Shots were fired at the West Palm Beach golf club, after US Secret Service agents spotted an individual carrying a weapon. Law enforcement officials reported that the suspect appeared to point the barrel of an AK-style weapon through the fencing.

The suspect is believed to have discarded the weapon and fled the scene in an SUV, only to be later captured in a neighboring county, according to officials. The firearm, a GoPro, and two backpacks were found at the scene. The FBI confirmed that they are treating the incident as a second attempted assassination.

Donald Trump himself spoke out shortly after the incident, which is believed to be the second attempt on his life in recent months. In an email to his fundraising list, the former President stated there were “gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!”

Running mate, JD Vance also spoke out after the incident. “I’m glad President Trump is safe. I spoke to him before the news was public and he was, amazingly, in good spirits,” Vance said in a social media post. “Still much we don’t know, but I’ll be hugging my kids extra tight tonight and saying a prayer of gratitude.”
