“Harris Bursts Into Laughter as Supporter Roasts Trump with Epic ‘Felons Can’t Vote!’ Jab!”
A heckler interrupted Vice President Kamala Harris during her speech in Georgia on Friday to fire off a one-liner roasting Donald Trump.
The Democratic nominee was speaking to supporters about abortion issues in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, where she criticized the former president for taking credit for the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.
Harris then bashed Trump for vowing to vote against a ballot measure in Florida that would protect abortion rights in the state’s constitution and extend the state’s six-week abortion ban to about 24 weeks. After she made her remarks, a member of the audience interrupted her to claim, “Felon can’t vote!”
The one-liner caused Harris and other audience members to laugh.
HARRIS: And they want to restrict access to contraception as well. And now Donald Trump says that he would personally cast his vote in Florida, which is where he now lives, to support their extreme abortion ban, just like the one that is here in Georgia.
HECKLER: Felons can’t vote!
[Harris and audience laughter]
HARRIS: Well that’s a whole different policy discussion that we’ll have another day.
Although the former president is a convicted felon and lives in a state that has some of the toughest laws stopping felons from voting, Trump will likely be able to vote.
Per the Florida Department of State’s website, for felonies other than murder or sexual offenses, “[a] felony conviction in another state makes a person ineligible to vote in Florida only if the conviction would make the person ineligible to vote in the state where the person was convicted.” Trump was convicted in New York and the state law states that the right to vote for felons can be restored upon release.
Moreover, even if Trump is sentenced to jail in New York, an appeal would preserve his voting rights in the state.
