Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance defended Senate Republicans’ decision to block the Right to IVF Act on Tuesday, arguing that the bill was destined to fail and was merely a political gesture. Vance criticized the bill as a “ridiculous show vote” that lacked any real chance of passing.

The bill, which aimed to provide nationwide protection for in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments, fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance in the Senate. All Republicans, except Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), voted against it. told by Mediaite.

Vance contended that the bill was a partisan move by Democrats, stating, “Kamala Harris and Chuck Schumer didn’t produce a bipartisan bill; they pushed through a vote to claim they support IVF while knowing it had no chance of passing.” He called for genuine legislative efforts rather than “political showmanship.”

Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) echoed Vance’s sentiment, stating that the opposition to the bill was not an indication of the GOP’s stance on IVF but a response to what he described as a political maneuver by Democrats. “Republicans support IVF, full stop,” Thune asserted. “This is not an attempt to legislate but to create a political issue.” report from Yahoo.

Former President Donald Trump, who has voiced support for IVF protection, emphasized the importance of fertility treatments in February, stating, “We want to make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder.”
