Jim Jordan Hints at Bold Move as Special Counsel Jack Smith Faces Potential Grilling
House Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) on Wednesday refused to rule out calling special counsel Jack Smith to testify on Capitol Hill.
The latest warning from Jordan, who has long lobbed threats at Smith as he spearheaded multiple criminal cases against President-elect Donald Trump, came Wednesday.
“Everything’s on the table,” Jordan said, as reported by Politico . “I’m just now looking at his report.”
The public caught its first glimpse of Smith’s much-anticipated report detailing Trump’s plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election after its release early Tuesday. Smith also probed the classified documents case against the incoming president.
The far-right Ohio lawmaker and staunch Trump ally has repeatedly insisted that Smith’s criminal investigations were overly politicized, a claim Smith has strongly denied, Politico noted.
During the 2024 campaign, Trump promised to fire Smith within “two seconds” of taking office. Smith resigned from the Justice Department last week and is now in the crosshairs of congressional Republicans as Trump prepares to reemerge in the White House with a GOP-controlled Congress waiting in the wings.
And Smith’s resignation could “pave the way” for him to testify in front of the House Judiciary Committee, Politico reported.
“It has become fairly routine for special counsels to testify before Congress at the end of their tenures,” the publication said.
