Kamala Under Fire as Trump Files Urgent Complaint Accusing Her of ‘$95 Million Heist’ From Biden
President Donald Trump’s campaign has accused Vice President Kamala Harris of orchestrating a “$91.5 million heist” from Joe Biden’s reelection campaign funds. The Trump campaign filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Tuesday, contending that Harris’s actions constitute “the largest campaign finance violation in American history.”
The complaint, spearheaded by Trump’s general counsel David Warrington, alleges that Harris, 59, swiftly took control of Biden’s campaign accounts after he ended his reelection bid on Sunday. According to a report by DailyMail on Wednesday, July 24, Warrington argues that Harris is “seeking to perpetrate a $95 million heist of Joe Biden’s leftover campaign cash,” urging the FEC to intervene and prevent what he describes as a “brazen money grab.”
“Kamala Harris is in the process of committing the largest campaign finance violation in American history and she is using the Commission’s own forms to do it,” the complaint states. “The Commission must not and cannot sit idly by while one candidate takes nearly one hundred million dollars from the authorized committee of another, in violation of the Act and the will of the donors who gave the money in the first place.”
Harris, who has now secured the Democratic nomination after Biden’s endorsement, has dismissed the allegations as baseless. Her campaign spokesperson, Charles Kretchmer Lutvak, suggested that Republicans are envious of the Democrats’ energized base.
“Republicans may be jealous that Democrats are energized to defeat Donald Trump and his MAGA allies, but baseless legal claims—like the ones they’ve made for years to try to suppress votes and steal elections—will only distract them while we sign up volunteers, talk to voters, and win this election,” Lutvak said.
The controversy comes on the heels of a record-breaking fundraising effort by Harris. Within 24 hours of taking over Biden’s campaign accounts, her campaign raised $81 million, shattering previous records. The New York Daily News reported that the total soon surpassed $231 million, with Harris securing $81 million in small-dollar donations and an additional $150 million from large donors.
Despite the Trump campaign’s accusations, Saurav Ghosh, a lawyer at the Campaign Legal Center, a non-partisan watchdog group, believes Harris’s claim to the funds is secure. “Because Harris was already part of ‘Biden for President’ as the vice presidential candidate, her claim on the money should be secure,” Ghosh noted.
As the FEC remains unable to comment on unresolved enforcement matters, the political drama surrounding the alleged “heist” continues to unfold. Harris, meanwhile, appears focused on her campaign, recently launching her first rally where she labeled Trump a “predator and cheater.”
The fallout from these allegations and the resulting FEC investigation could have significant implications for both campaigns as they gear up for the next election cycle.
