Donald Trump has appeared in a sit-down interview in the wake of his 34 felony convictions. The ex-president, who heard the guilty verdicts handed down on Thursday, discussed the impact on his family, including his wife Melania and his son Barron.

He dubbed the reports of the alleged affair between himself and adult film star Stormy Daniels “—-” and said it had been “hard” for his wife – who he has been married to since 2005 – to hear.

Daniels claimed she had an affair with Donald Trump in 2006, shortly after his wife Melania gave birth to their son. In 2016, during Trump’s presidential campaign, Daniels was paid $130,000 by Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, to keep quiet about the alleged affair. It’s these payments that have led to Trump’s recent convictions.

Trump told Fox and Friends: “I have a wonderful wife who has to listen to this stuff all the time. They do that for this reason. They do that all these salacious names that they put in, of these people. And I’m not even allowed to defend myself because of the gag order.”

The ex-president appeared to suggest the reports of the alleged affair were a concerted effort to “create havoc”, although he didn’t clarify exactly by who. He went not: “Think of it, but they put this up and to create havoc. These are bad people.”

Returning to his family, he added: “I think it’s probably in many ways. It’s tougher on my family. Melania, she’s fine, but I think it’s very hard for her. I mean, she’s fine. But it’s, you know, she has to read all this —-.” He was also asked how his son Barron was coping, and he had an incongruous response.

The ex-president responded by calling Barron “cool” and “tall”. He said: “He’s amazing, actually in a certain way, and he’s tall. He’s good-looking. He’s a very good student.

“And he’s is applying to colleges and gets into everywhere he goes. You know, he’s very sought after from the standpoint. “He’s a very smart guy. Very tall guy. But he’s amazing. He’s a great kid.”
