Oh, For Heaven’s Sake, Robert F Kennedy Jr, Really?

Mark your calendar for September, date as yet unknown. We’re going to get great news! It’s going to be amazing! I can hardly wait! NOT. But it’s going to be historic! Really, it is! You see, in September, he’s going to announce the cause of autism.

Or he thinks he will find the cause of autism, when it is a complicated mix of factors. Well, according to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the boob whom the squatter currently occupying the White House picked to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Nonsense! From Progressive dot org:

As Kennedy put it: “By September, we will know what has caused the autism epidemic and we’ll be able to eliminate those exposures.” In response, the squatter  crowed: “There will be no bigger news conference than that, if you can come up with that answer, where you stop taking something, you stop eating something, or maybe it’s a shot, but something’s causing it.”

Yea, and I have a bridge to sell you. No, really! It’s wonderful! It’s in New York City! It’s a very special bridge! Baloney. How many people and organizations have spoken up to disprove his allegations? I’ll becha they were all ignored because he wants to hold onto his fantasy of “curing” autism.

You idiot, it’s not that easy! It’s never BEEN that easy, in all the testing and lab work and such that has already been done! The rates have risen, yes, but it’s because we have better testing and better knowledge to get that 1 in 31 diagnosis. From Progressive dot org:

The Autism Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) calls Kennedy’s claim “untrue, impossible, and ableist,” saying HHS clearly “intends to produce rigged and fraudulent research that supports Kennedy and Trump’s pre-existing beliefs in a connection between autism and vaccines.”

ASAN is referring to public statements that Kennedy has made professing his belief that vaccines can cause autism. On the group’s website, a statement reads: “In spite of decades of replicable research proving that this is not true, some people, like Kennedy, continue to perpetuate the myth. These lies do very real harm to the autistic community. By working to prevent childhood vaccination, he effectively communicates the message that living as an autistic person is a worse fate than dying of measles or pertussis.”

There *isn’t* a cure. It’s pretty random, according to the studies that have been done. And it has multiple causes. But Kennedy’s wild goose chase and the squatter’s cheering from the sidelines just go to show what fools they both are, not just about autism but disability, too. They’re going to hurt people, not help them. Let me get personal about this.

Are we all going to have to go underground after he announces a made-up cure? Are parents going to be idiots and *try* this cure on their children? Back when I was born, we didn’t have all this knowledge, but we do now. I was not diagnosed until a little over 2 years ago because of that.

Let me tell you, it makes some of my behavior when I was young a *lot* easier to understand! It would have been great to know then, but I do now, and I can work with my ADHD.  It’s considered “on the spectrum,” so that means I am, too. *shrug* Whatever. The diagnosis doesn’t bother me. It has *helped*, if anything.

What looks to Kennedy and the squatter like an alarming increase in the occurrence of autism is probably just a more accurate understanding of the prevalence of autism. We know that RFK Jr is going to make something up.

We’ll have to try and mitigate the damage. I don’t want more news stories of children who have died from measles, and I don’t want to read about children whose parents are trying to cure them with some fantasy, and they were permanently damaged.

Those might not make the news, actually, because the ones to try it are going to embarrass themselves in a big way. I don’t know why he has such a BIG thing for curing autism. I wish he’d lay off! It’s a pity I can’t walk up to him and slap the nonsense out of him.
