Donald Trump’s debate performance was erratic, with the former president citing numerous bizarre conspiracy theories and making false statements, including that Haitian immigrants are stealing and eating people’s house cats in Ohio, that Democrats want to “execute” babies after they’re born, and that Democrats are letting 21 million migrants enter the country each month and “trying to get them to vote.”

“He’s really doubling down on the crazy uncle vibe this evening,” our Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg posted to his personal Threads account during the debate yesterday.

One of the most-discussed moments of the debate on social media was when Vice President Kamala Harris goaded Trump into talking about the “Haitians are eating cats” rumor, which local authorities have said is baseless.

Harris discussed Trump’s rallies and pointed out several bizarre things he has been saying at them recently. Then she took a swipe at something that Trump is very proud of: his crowd size.

“You will also notice [at Trump’s rallies] is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom,” she said. “And I will tell you, the one thing you will not hear him talk about is you. You will not hear him talk about your needs.”

In response to a question about immigration, Trump said that he would first need to “respond about the rallies.”

“She said, ‘People start leaving,’ people don’t go to her rallies,” Trump claimed defensively before he brought up “World War III.” Then he started talking about the cats in his rambling answer.

“In Springfield [Ohio], they’re eating the dogs!” Trump bellowed as Harris laughed at him. “The people that came in, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating- they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

He then brought up the rallies again and said that people go because “they like what I say.”

Harris responded by bringing up how many Republican leaders have endorsed her: “If you want the inside track on who the former president is, if he didn’t make it clear already, just ask people who have worked with him.”

Omg Trump takes the bait and starts rambling about crowd sizes and repeats baseless claims about immigrants eating pets and gets fact checked
