Former President Donald Trump falsely claimed that President Joe Biden had put his life in jeopardy. According to a report by Raw Story on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, Trump alleged that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) had authorized agents to use deadly force while searching Mar-a-Lago, should they encounter a life-threatening danger.
Multiple legal experts have clarified that the authorization of deadly force in such searches is a standard practice. This standard was also applied during the FBI’s authorization to search President Joe Biden’s properties for classified documents, using the same language as during the Trump search.
Despite these clarifications, the former president has not wavered from his narrative that Biden ordered the FBI to barge into Mar-a-Lago “with guns blazing.” “Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ, in their illegal and unconstitutional raid of Mar-a-Lago, authorized the FBI to use deadly lethal force, can you believe that?” Trump questioned in his video.
In fact, this claim is misleading. Beyond the standard nature of such force authorizations, the DOJ sought and obtained a lawful warrant for the search. This warrant was issued after presenting evidence to a judge that there was likely to be evidence of a crime at Trump’s property.
Trump, who has a history of disputing legal and electoral processes, seized the opportunity to portray Biden as a threat to democracy. “Now we know for sure that Joe Biden is a serious threat to democracy,” Trump declared, despite his own refusal to concede the 2020 election, his pressuring of officials to overturn election results, and his incitement of the January 6th Capitol riot.
The former president concluded his video by declaring that Biden is “mentally unfit to hold office.” This is not the first time Trump has employed hyperbolic and inflammatory rhetoric to galvanize his base.
