Trump Hit With Discouraging News as GOP Strategist Drops Honest Opinion on Likely Result of Nov Poll
GOP strategist Frank Luntz has argued that former President Donald Trump’s larger-than-life persona is hindering his ability to dominate the polls and pre-election surveys as he once did.
According to Luntz, Trump’s frustration is mounting because his once-commanding lead in the 2024 presidential race has significantly narrowed.
During an appearance on CNN on Sunday, August 11, Luntz observed that while Trump still holds an edge on key issues like immigration and inflation, his poll numbers have declined since Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.
Luntz suggested that Trump’s shift in focus towards personal attacks against Harris is driving voters away, while admitting that he is as well appearing less likely to regain his dwindling popularity.
“He’s become increasingly negative and hostile,” Luntz remarked, adding that Trump seems to have “lost his balance.”
Luntz highlighted Harris’ unexpected rise in the polls as a sharp contrast to Trump’s faltering momentum.
“There’s no doubt the shift over the last 17 days has been remarkable,” Luntz said.
He elaborated: “When it comes to policy, Trump is more likely to succeed. However, when it comes to personal appeal, Harris has the upper hand because, quite simply, people like her more than they like him.”
Luntz explained that if the campaign is focused on issues, Trump might still have the upper hand.
However, he noted that Harris is currently leading, and this trend could continue, especially with the upcoming Democratic National Convention likely to give her an additional boost.
Luntz stressed that this back-and-forth is common in campaigns, but right now, Harris is winning in terms of likability.
This, he believes, is a source of great frustration for Trump, who appears to have lost touch with the voters he needs most.
The real test, Luntz warned, will come when Harris faces the scrutiny of a press conference and tough questions from journalists.
“The challenge is, what happens when she has a press conference, what happens when she faces people like you asking questions like yours, that’s significant she hasn’t had to do it and eventually, she’ll be forced to do so,” he pointed out.
But for now, with the campaign focusing on personality rather than policy, Harris holds the advantage over Trump.
“But as it’s happening right now her attributes versus trumps issues, she’s got the lead.”.
