MOSINEE, WISCONSIN: Former president Donald Trump has once again downplayed concerns over Russia’s involvement in the US elections, this time dismissing findings from the Department of Justice (DOJ) about Russia’s covert efforts to influence the upcoming 2024 election.

Speaking at a rally in Wisconsin on Saturday, September 7, Trump appeared unfazed by the revelations, choosing instead to joke about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s playful endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, as per The Hill.

Donald Trump shrugs off findings from DOJ about Russia’s efforts to influence 2024 election

During his Wisconsin rally, Donald Trump addressed the recent DOJ announcement that it had seized 32 web domains used by Russia in its influence campaigns targeting the 2024 US election.

With his usual bravado, Trump mocked the renewed warnings about Russian interference, framing it as a tiresome narrative from the government.

“Three days ago, it started again. The Justice Department said Russia may be involved in our elections again,” Trump told his audience. He then sarcastically exclaimed, “It’s Russia. It’s Russia. And you know, the whole world laughed at them this time.”

Referencing the DOJ’s concerns, Trump continued, “They said just the other day, the attorney general, ‘We are looking at Russia.’ And I said, ‘Oh no. It’s Russia, Russia, Russia all over again.'”

His comments harkened back to the infamous investigation into his 2016 campaign by special counsel Robert Mueller, which examined whether Trump’s team had coordinated with Moscow to sway the election.

Trump also took the opportunity to argue that other countries, such as China and Iran, are not scrutinized to the same extent as Russia, saying, “But they don’t look at China, and they don’t look at Iran. I don’t know what it is with poor Russia.”

The Biden administration has made it clear that Russian efforts to influence the 2024 election are real and ongoing.

Earlier this week, the DOJ seized several web domains and charged two employees of RT, a Russian state-backed media outlet, with violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

The two individuals are accused of working with a conservative US media company to spread disinformation aimed at creating division among Americans.

These actions mark some of the most forceful moves taken by the Biden administration in response to the threat of foreign election interference, which US intelligence agencies have labeled as a major concern.

The intelligence community has repeatedly identified Russia as the predominant threat to US elections.

Following Donald Trump’s rally and his latest defense of Russia, social media users quickly expressed outrage.

On X, one person remarked, “Trump is a traitor that belongs in prison.”

Another said, “Trump cares more about Russia, than he does his own supporters.”
