Trump’s Playing Gangsta But MAGA Is FO-ing Out To Their Dismay

There will be trade wars and rumors of trade wars, but the real war is the war on truth. That’s the war Trump has been waging the entire time he’s been in politics and that’s the war he won a few months ago. And so that war is gearing up in new theaters of conflict.
From now on out here’s the template you will see: 1. Trump does something ill advised if not downright stupid; 2. Right-wing media reports it in a twisted and unrecognizable fashion as a victory; 3. MAGA acts on it, to their detriment and ours; and 4. then the shit hits the fan. Let’s see the most recent example, which is the trade war with Columbia, previously an ally. But who needs enemies when you’ve got allies like Trump?
The Columbian president would not allow deportation planes to land. So they landed in Honduras. Columbia is picking up deported Columbians from Honduras with “dignity” meaning no shackles, none of that. But the New York Post is crowing about this and saying that the Columbian president “knuckled under” and is sending his presidential plane to do Trump’s bidding, presumably out of fear and acquiesence. Hence, the image of gangsta Trump which the right is running with on social media. Here’s what that looks like.
If you go to Twit/X or read the New York Post, Trump and right-wing media are characterizing today’s events with Columbia as a massive Trump victory. The Post is saying that Petro is “buckling under” to Trump. No. No such thing. But this is the MAGA fantasy.
To quote Mel Gibson, one of Trump’s “special ambassadors to Hollywood,” “Daddy’s home now and he’s taken off his belt.” This is the pitch from the right wing, that Trump is some awesome strong man and the world quakes. No, Trump is an idiot and the world is telling him to fuck off, sometimes literally as in the case of a recent Danish diplomat. Here’s what the Columbian president said:
Colombia will send its presidential plane to Honduras to pick up Colombians after the country refused to accept migrant deportation flights from the United States, causing President Trump to enact tariffs and other retaliatory measures on Sunday.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has arranged for the presidential plane to facilitate the “dignified return of Colombian nationals who were to arrive in the country today in the morning hours, coming in from deportation flights,” read a statement released on Sunday.
“This measure is in response to the government’s commitment to guarantee dignified conditions. In no way have Colombians, as patriots and subjects of rights, been or will be banished from Colombian territory,” the statement continued.
Earlier Sunday, President Trump slapped Colombia with 25 percent tariffs on all goods coming into the U.S., and he issued a travel ban and immediate visa revocations on “Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters,” among other measures, after the South American country rejected two planes carrying migrants.
Petro hit Trump back by ordering an increase of import tariffs on goods from the United States by 25 percent.
“American products whose price will rise within the national economy must be replaced by national production, and the government will help in this regard,” Petro said in a Sunday afternoon post.
Petro previously said he will deny entry to the United States’s deportation flights as Trump’s immigration plan begins.
There’s clearly a diplomatic scuffle here. And maybe millionaires like Mel Gibson think this is a hoot but wait until the repercussions hit:
Former Tennessee Democratic election commissioner Chris D. Jackson said, “For all the clowns hyping Trump’s move on Colombia: under Biden, Colombia accepted 475 deportation flights—over 120 in 2024 alone. And he didn’t have to show his a– or start a trade war to do it. He was just that good.”
Democratic lawmaker Ruben Gallego said, “This is a dumb trade war that the Trump admin started.”
“This could have been resolved with a phone call. Trump picked a fight with an ally, to look strong,” he said Sunday. “FYI get your orders in now for roses. We import a majority of roses from Colombia.”
Former Democratic lawmaker Bakari Sellers said, “Adding some facts here.”
“Colombia accepted 475 deportation flights under Biden, more than 120 in 2024 alone,” Sellers then added. “All this without a trade war.”
Dan Pfeiffer, a former senior adviser to Barack Obama, also chimed in:
“Ooh, a dumb and pointless trade war in less than a week Great work!”
One popular influencer who runs the YouTube Channel @LiveFromTheResistance weighed in, “And we have a trade war with Columbia in less than 1 week which will send prices of gasoline and products skyrocketing for Americans. Thanks Trump.”
Attorney Aaron Parnas added, “The United States is officially in a trade war with Colombia because of Donald Trump. You know who will suffer? You.”
It’s tragic that we’ve come to this crossroads. But here we are. And MAGA is already feeling the pain.
