Former President Donald Trump casually told a rally crowd “Everybody knew we won” the 2020 election — after weeks of repeatedly admitting the truth that he lost.

A few weeks ago, Trump told reporters, in an aside at a press event, that “I got many millions more votes than I got the first time, but didn’t quite make it, just a little bit short.”

Since then he has added some caveats about “cheating,” but has made the same admission on multiple occasions. The admission even infuriated White Supremacist Neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes — who notoriously dined with and entertained Trump at Mar-a-Lago — into an unhinged rage at the hardships he endured in service to the stolen election lie.

But at a Trump rally/”town hall” event in Flint, Michigan, Tuesday hosted by Trump surrogate Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AK), Trump was back at it.

He began by reminiscing about his 2016 victory with Sanders, then began suggesting something was amiss in 2020:

1 So we all we ran in 2016 and it was amazing. It was amazing. And we won. We then ran in 2020 and we did much better than 2016.

People don’t like to hear it, you know? “He’s a conspiracy theorist,” you know. We got millions and millions more votes. We did much better. It wasn’t even a contest.

I was telling one of the papers, they said, “what was the difference?”.

I said, “Well, the difference is we did much, much better the second time,” but we had a lot of things happen. We know what those things are.

Later in the rally during an aside about the invasion of Ukraine, Trump revisited the claim, phasing between stages in a single sentence claiming “we won” and “we shoulda won” and “everybody knew we won”:

If that didn’t happen, I don’t think and I guarantee you, if the election were a straight election–.

We won that election. We should have won that election. Everybody knew we won the election. They would have never attacked.

Harris-Walz 2024 Spokesperson Joseph Costello ripped Trump in a statement emailed to Mediaite:

“Tonight, Donald Trump doubled down on his lies that have turned off swing voters across the country. Americans are exhausted by his election lies and tired of Trump’s same old playbook. For Trump, it’s all about himself. This November, freedom-loving, patriotic Americans – Republicans, Democrats, and independents – will turn the page on Trump’s extremism and conspiracy theories and elect the only candidate who will defend our democracy and Constitution: Vice President Kamala Harris.”

President Joe Biden defeated Trump in an electoral landslide that has been reaffirmed over and over by state officials from Trump’s own party — including Republican officials in Georgia.
