“Why Is the Mainstream Media Ignoring Trump’s Cognitive Decline? The Shocking Truth Revealed!”

As one who framed talk radio conversations for years — on commercial AM and NPR FM stations — I believe that it can be useful to open topics up for discussion, and not just to proclaim a point of view. I do a great deal of such proclaiming on DK because I think I have something worth saying. But very often, I’m trying to figure out something that perplexes me about what’s going on in the world.

And I hope that it would be an OK thing for me to do here to bring such perplexing questions up for discussion here in this community, where there are a lot of thoughtful people who might contribute good answers to those questions.

It is in that spirit that I raise the question of why the Mainstream Media are dealing with Trump in some ways that seem obviously contrary to helping their readers/viewers understand what’s going on. 

And then, more particularly, why these media organizations — outfits that are of great prestige, considered among the world’s greatest, like the New York Times — are not reporting the growing evidence that things are importantly amiss in Trump’s 78-year-old brain.

One flagrant example has been pointed out by a few people here on DK (sorry, I don’t have the citations): Trump was asked last week a question about child care, and his response was completely off the wall. Nonetheless, as has been pointed out, the reports from the Times (and elsewhere) made all Trump’s craziness into something that seemed to make sense. 

Here’s a guy who might become President of the United States again, and in addition to all the terrible things that obviously would represent, he’s bonkers as well. 

But the same media outlets — who were all over the (somewhat legitimate) questions of whether age had affected Biden’s abilities — ignore Trump’s more obviously pathological signs of dementia, and present him to the public as speaking the way a serious presidential contender would speak.

Why is that? I really want to know?

Do these media — or the people who run them? or the people who own them? — really want Trump to win? Why would that be? Trump is, after all, the guy who called the media “the Enemy of the People.”

Do the powers behind the non-Murdoch media organizations want a fascistic future for America? I’ve never seen the New York Times — which has exposed so many of Trump’s evils over the years — as being the enemies of American Democracy?

Are these media organizations still intimidated by the accusations — that worked so effectively on them since Reagan’s era — of bias by the “liberal media”? That would be kind of crazy: so much has changed from those days of liberal-vs.-conservative.
