Wow – Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington Calls Out Trump to His Face

Talk about speaking truth to power, the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde, Episcopal Bishop of Washington, called out Trump to his fat face at this morning’s National Prayer Breakfast in Washington’s National Cathedral, gently but forcefully scolding Mango Mussolini for his retrograde stances on immigration and Sexual identification. As Trump, his family and V.P. Vance squirmed and frowned under her tongue lashing, the Right Reverend made the case for Christian charity and mercy to the various assembled Republican heathens:
“In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” said Budde, as Trump, Vice President Vance, and their families looked on.
The reverend spoke directly to the president, saying “Let me make one final plea, Mr. President, millions have put their trust in you, and as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people in our country who are scared. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic and Republican and Independent families, some who fear for their lives.”
“And the people – the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meet packing plants, who wash the dishes at their restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they – they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors,” Budde said. “They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues… and temples.”
The reverend asked Trump to have “mercy on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away, and that you help those who are fleeing war zones of persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome, our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to a stranger.”
One of them, Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA), went to bat for his chastened dear leader, saying that the Right Reverend should herself be deported.
Jesus Christ, these people:
“The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington — who led the inaugural prayer service Washington, DC Tuesday received fierce backlash from a Republican congressman after asking President Donald Trump to “have mercy” on LGBTQ people and immigrants…
…Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) shared the video via X, writing: “The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list.”
Several journalists and immigration experts immediately slammed the Georgia lawmaker over his remark.
Religion News Service national reporter Jack Jenkins replied: “Note: The person giving the sermon in question is Bishop Mariann Budde, the Episcopal Bishop of Washington. Collins is suggesting deporting a U.S. citizen and bishop for delivering a sermon in accordance with their faith.”
Longtime journalist John Harwood commented: “dangerous lunacy”
Quite the eloquent and concise summation of the MAGA… ahem… er… movement there John.
Of course Collins’s tweet landed with a thud:
