“You Want Me To Go Swimming?” Maybe Trump Learned About Freshwater Sharks

Aircraft crashes that include civilian deaths get a lot of attention. One happening at Reagan National Airport will get even more, especially with a President and equally stupid and uncaring Secretaries of Transportation and Defense making dumbass comments.
That’s something we can be sure will continue. Trump of course sets the standard, and I guess the tone for his underlings. However he insists on hogging the spotlight so when he’s being particularly clueless and stupid, not to mention callous that spotlight will shine harshly.
Trump wasted no time after the tragic collision between an Army helicopter and a civilian jet just south of National Airport to start hyping HIS attitudes and beliefs. DEI and Woke policies were the cause. As for being like every other President and offering comfort and reassurance to the families of victims and the nation? Screw that! He’s got HIS talking points to make.
Being Trump that wasn’t bad enough however. When asked about whether he’d visit the crash site his retort was “You want me to go swimming?” Personally I’d love nothing more, having once fallen into near freezing water while stepping off a sailboat onto a narrow bit of dock.
No way my companion could haul a man my size (then 230 pounds) four feet from the surface of the water back onto the dock. I’ve done mile long (and longer swims) but those were the longest, toughest thirty yards I’ve ever had to pull myself though in the water! I think of Trump’s fat ass falling into a near freezing Potomac and it brings a smile to my face.
Anyway, as The Independent reports Trumpty was asked typical questions about meeting with families of victims and visiting the site of the tragedy. At the outset the linked article notes Trump adopted a “sarcastic” tone which you should keep in mind reading this:
The president said on Thursday he would be meeting with some of the families of victims of the tragedy, which occurred at Ronald Reagan Airport Wednesday night. All 67 people involved in the crash are presumed dead, authorities said previously.
When asked about his plans to visit the crash site, he replied: “I have a plan to visit, not the site. Because you tell me, what’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming?”
Well ‘Hardy-har-har’ Donald. Social media was swift in condemning his comment and that’s going to make one of his standard ‘defenses’ of ‘I was just joking’ a more difficult sell. Not that it would have been easy, especially so soon after and when all the bodies have yet to be recovered.
And the fact that the Potomac is a wide river and the current has carried many a good ways downstream. Joking around and/or being sarcastic is hardly something a President should be doing in such a situation but we’re talking Trump. See for yourself and tell me Trump wasn’t being snarky or sarcastic:
Yes, he could be taken on a very, very nice rich person’s boat (Joe Manchin’s perhaps?) out to the dinner cruise ship that’s near the wreckage of the aircraft and serving as a base of operations for those doing recovery and running the investigation to determine what actually caused the crash. He could have been ‘Presidential’ and read off some prepared statement of thanking them for their efforts and hoping they’d soon be able to provide definitive answers as to what went wrong. And recommendations on how to minimize the chances of it happening again.
But noooooooooo! Trumpty has already decided it was all incompetent DEI hires and WOKE that caused the crash. Given the dry, technical language the NTSB uses in final reports on crashes when the report is issued (anywhere from six months to a year from now) Trumpty will loudly blather his same old bullshit and the MAGAs will eat it up with a spoon. (If you’ve never read an NTSB report trust me – they make most people’s eyes glaze over) The pain all this POLITICAL posturing will cause the families? For Trump and his people they don’t matter! Only the message of “DEI and WOKE” does.
Trump knows the optics of him standing on the shore looking out at the wreckage and the search boats wouldn’t be good so to get something that will ‘play’ means going out on a boat and that simply isn’t going to happen. Trumpty isn’t the most sure footed guy out there to begin with. Anyone who’s ever stepped on or off a boat, even a large one knows how careful you need to be. A slip or slight loss of balance and you’re in the drink. Trump can’t even navigate a ramp anymore. Or stand at a podium without bracing himself. There’s not a chance in hell Trump will go anywhere near a boat on the Potomac.
Little did I know until a few years ago that sharks can be found in the Mississippi NORTH of where I grew up! The Potomac empties into the Chesapeake so guess what? Trump knows it’s possible there might be a shark or two in the Potomac! You think there’s a chance in hell he’d risk getting on a boat?
“We want the most competent people,” Trump said. “We don’t care what race they are. We want the most competent people, especially in those positions.”
He added: “You’re talking about extremely complex things, and if they don’t have a great brain, a great power of the brain, they’re not going to be very good at what they do and bad things will happen.”
Trump made the comments before any investigative findings into the crash, and offered no specifics or evidence for his claims.
When pressed after his earlier remarks about why he believed DEI was responsible for the crash, he responded that it “could have been.” He said he reached his conclusion because “I have common sense.”
