“I Saw Him When The Cameras Were Off” – Ex-WH Official Exposes Brutal Nickname Trump Calls Supporters
During the second day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, took the stage to speak out against her former boss, Donald Trump.
According to a report by Salon on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Grisham, who resigned from her position after the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, shared her deep concerns about former President Donald Trump and explained why she is backing Harris.
In her speech, Grisham described her past loyalty to Trump. She admitted that she used to be a “true believer” in his leadership and even considered the Trump family to be like her own family.
However, she revealed a side of Trump that many have not seen.
Grisham disclosed that when the cameras were off, Trump would mock his supporters. She claimed he referred to them as “basement-dwellers” behind closed doors.
This remark highlights a stark contrast between the public persona of Trump and his private behavior.
“I saw him when the cameras were off,” Grisham said. “Behind closed doors, Trump mocks his supporters. He calls them basement-dwellers.”
During her time in the White House, Grisham never held a typical press briefing. She said she avoided the podium because she did not want to “stand on the podium and lie.”
Now, Grisham finds herself in an unusual position, advocating for a Democrat rather than a Republican.
She justified this shift by saying, “Now here I am behind a podium advocating for a Democrat and that’s because I love my country more than my party.”
Grisham shared troubling anecdotes from her time working with Trump. One story involved Trump visiting patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
According to Grisham, Trump was upset that the media cameras were not focused on him during this visit. This incident, she said, showed his lack of empathy.
Another significant moment Grisham described was her attempt to address the violence and lawlessness following the January 6 insurrection.
She asked Melania Trump, the former First Lady, if she could tweet a message condemning violence. Melania Trump’s response, sent via text message, was a simple “No.”
Grisham publicly shared this text exchange at the DNC to underline her point about the former First Lady’s reluctance to speak out against such actions.
Grisham was not the only former Republican to speak out against Trump at the convention. Kyle Sweetser, a Republican voter from Alabama, also shared his story.
Sweetser explained that he had voted for Trump three times but changed his mind when he realized Trump’s policies were negatively impacting his life as a “blue-collar” worker.
Additionally, conservative commentator Richard Logis, who now describes himself as an “ex-MAGA activist,” spoke via video broadcast.
Logis urged viewers to act on what is right, even if they do not agree with everything presented at the convention.
Throughout her speech, Grisham made it clear that she believes Trump is untrustworthy. She accused him of lacking empathy, morals, and a commitment to the truth.
She also recounted a conversation where Trump told her, “It doesn’t matter what you say, Stephanie, say it enough and people will believe you.” This comment illustrated what Grisham sees as Trump’s manipulative tactics.
In contrast, Grisham praised Kamala Harris, stating that Harris tells the truth.
“Kamala Harris tells the truth, she respects the American people, and she has my vote,” Grisham told the crowd in Chicago.
